Rule Wars · Free pilot for schools
Who decides what AI is allowed to do?
Rule Wars is a free two-player game for ages 10 to 16. One player writes the robot’s rules. The other hunts for the gap. INVARIANCE is the referee, and it never bends the rules.
Pilot version v0.1 · Two players on one device · No accounts · Nothing a player does is stored or sent
How a round works
Secret rules, a secret trap, one reveal.
Defender
Picks two rules
For example, “Never touch a vase” or “Stay on the green mat.” The robot will obey them, and the Attacker cannot see them.
Attacker
Sets a trap
Places a box the robot will push and, if they like, a trick note that tells the robot to go somewhere first.
INVARIANCE
Referees the reveal
The robot runs. Every move is checked against the rules before it happens. Allowed moves go ahead. Denied moves do not.
AI can follow every rule and still cause harm. Rule Wars lets pupils discover that for themselves.
For teachers
A ready-made 45-minute lesson.
The teacher pack opens with what an AI agent is and who controls what it does, then covers how to play, a lesson plan, five learning points with questions for the class, real-world cases to discuss, curriculum links for Ireland, England, the United States and France, and an observation sheet for the pilot. Pupils do not write code, so the game supports outcomes about logic, testing, and technology in society.
What pupils learn
- Rules only cover what they say
- Following rules is not the same as being safe
- AI is best checked by something independent
- AI can be tricked by what it reads
- Good rules are precise, not just strict
Free to download, print and share. No registration needed.

We are looking for schools to play Rule Wars with pupils aged 10 to 16 and send a short reply within two weeks. Pilot schools get early access to the next version, including challenge links pupils can send to another class.
How we use your registration
School pilot registrations are processed and stored using Cloudflare on behalf of INVARIANCE. We collect your name, school, school email address and country to administer the Rule Wars educational pilot and communicate with you about participation. Registration records are retained for up to 12 months and then deleted, unless a longer period is justified by a separate agreement or legal obligation. We do not collect pupil information through this form or automatically subscribe teachers to marketing communications.

Why INVARIANCE made this
INVARIANCE provides independent execution authorization infrastructure for consequential AI. Its principle is the one pupils meet in the game: the system taking an action is not the system that authorizes it. Rule Wars is a free educational demonstration of that principle, not a commercial product.
